Clear charge. The arms not being verticale aren't an issue in this play., the contact occurred in the chest.

Jeremy Hohn Tue Feb 14, 2012 02:32pm

Charge. Period. Squared up and established outside the circle before the offense alighted.

truerookie Tue Feb 14, 2012 02:34pm

Foul, black #34 illegal use of the hand. Verticality issue.

PG_Ref Tue Feb 14, 2012 02:35pm

From the Lead's angle, it appears as though the defender leans forward and initiates the contact first before the shooter crashes into him.

This.

By rule, double foul. Defender fouls the shooter's arms, then the shooter proceeds to plow through the defender.

In practice, I'm going with the PC on this one.

Contact with the arms by the defender happens before contact in the chest by the offensive player.

It's the NBA, so I say protect the superstar. Defensive foul.

Kidding. Mostly.

Contact with defender's arms to shooter's body and knee to chest are virtually simultaneous. Defender got the hard part right but blew the easier part. Why did he do that, Mr. Peebles? Give him the block, though I could live with calling a freight train a freight train

+1 I have the defensive foul happening before the PC.

Rich Tue Feb 14, 2012 03:08pm

I'm going PC on this one. The arms had absolutely no effect on the subsequent contact.

JugglingReferee Tue Feb 14, 2012 03:16pm

PC call. The non-verticality of the arms is not enforced due to that contact being virtually simultaneous with the charge.

That's like saying, "Your Honor, I know I ran over him with my car, but it's his fault for leaning into my hood." :D

Agreed, which is why I'd ignore the illegal hands on this one. If the same defender did the same thing again, I would consider a DF, or go to a defensive foul if I was even close to considering a no-call on the charge (minimal torso contact).

Hey, at least he wasn't flopping. :D

I must be enjoying the contrarian position the past couple of days.
