Important to tell B that it's a spot or running endline throw-in?

huddle, that we notify team A that they are entitled to the run, but fail to notify
the 5 players from team B, that A has the run?

What think ye?

Edit to include my answer of, "Every time - unless B asks."

I say it as I'm bouncing the ball, loud enough for anyone in the vicinity to hear, while I either point to the spot or move my hand back and forth.

Me too.

I say their coach should tell them. That's why they get paid the BIG bucks, right?

Give the signal as I'm blowing the whistle, before handing the ball.

As do I, but my issue is with the highlighted part of the statement:

Our basic procedure, coming out of a time out:

*"White ball!" (pointing with arm)
*"Designated"/"End line" (point to spot or sweeping arm)

As the thrower-in is coming out of the time out, I'll also give a verbal reminder ("14, you can run the end line, if you want"), but that's just me. One girl smiled at me and replied, "Well, I don't want to!" I just chuckled and gave my wife's favorite word: "FINE!"

My visual signal is for everyone.

I don't take that as meaning we have to make sure every player knows, but rather that the signal/verbalization/however you handle it is made in a way and at a time that everyone has the opportunity to know.

Essentially, don't say it to the thrower and then not indicate it once everyone is out of the huddle.

My procedure is similar to several above - I give a signal and verbalize "spot" or "can run the endline" right before my whistle and administering the throw-in.

Yeah, I noted that, but I'm not even announcing it to all the offensive players. Anyone who needs to know is going to be close enough when I make the announcement. That's good enough for me.

Me too. (I get too easily perturbed by poor wording.)

Yeah, I have the same problem.

Options:

1) Require a signed, notarized document from each player before putting the ball in play.

2) Just officiate.

Most would choose option 2.

Maybe it'd just be more efficient to go out and get a blanket informed consent document signed by everyone during the same time I'm handing out technical fouls during half time of the JV game for varsity players dunking, in my plain clothes.
