Ok here is the scenario:

A player is in the right post with his back to basket. He has established his pivot foot as being his right foot. The player then spins to his right steps with his left foot, then jumps off his left foot attempting a fade away jump shot, without taking a dribble. Is this a travleing violation?

Under NF rules, no. He may lift the pivot foot as long as he passes or shoots before returning the foot to the floor.

BTW - this rule also applies if he is in the left post. :)

So you are able to take a step from your pivot foot to the other foot to attempt a shot without a dribble. Just as long as the shot or pass happens before you land back on your original pivot foot.

It can't be traveling until the pivot foot returns to the floor.

In fact, once you lift your pivot foot, you'd better NOT dribble. It IS a travel to release the ball for a dribble AFTER lifting the pivot foot.

Picking a nit.

Yes, that's right, clarky. In fact, if you think about it, if you couldn't lift your pivot foot to shoot, the jump shot would be illegal!!! As would most layups.
