Drawing Charges

Overlooked Florida PG leads nation at all levels with unique talent: Drawing charges

Quote:

Thomas Ozuna is a starting point guard for Deltona (Fla.) Pine Ridge High. At a stocky 5-foot-8, Ozuna doesn't stand out in any particular way. He's fast, but not blazing fast. He's tough, but often too small to make a huge difference in the blocks.

Do the math and one quickly learns that Ozuna averages more than three received charges per game.

I guess the question I have, is how do they know he leads the nation in this?

Peace

might be his brother in my game

Had a game last week where the same player took 6 charges in the game.
He took the last two with 4 fouls. The 4 fouls he did earn were not blocks, but other common fouls.

Saw this kids brother after the game and he said they had a coach in youth basketball that stressed drawing charges and that his younger brother was always the best at it.

I have never had 6 charges in a game until then, let alone 6 by one player.

Guess it stands to reason......

If no one else keeps that stat, he MUST lead the nation! ;)

Because if he didn't, someone else would refute the claim.

This is like all of those inane, meaningless "stats" that ESPN comes up with such as--"Johnson has averaged having to re-tie his shoes during the game at a 4.3 clip. The previous record was Smith back in 1975, who averaged 3.7. Of course, Chuck Taylors were the dominant shoe at the time."

Sparks Tribune - Sparks basketball earns split at South Tahoe

"The highlight of the night was Sparks senior Erik Garcia, who drew nine charges on defense."

Hard heads prevail

Next question: After, like, seven of those, don't you think the other guys would get the idea? Maybe they're lousy spot-up shooters ... :D
