Yet another great comment by a partner

Had my usual dose of weekend local kids rec league games today, and my partner made a remark that really cracked me up. It was our second game and it was 7/8 grade girls. We have a few games that we "interlock" with teams from the two adjacent town rec leagues and this was one of those. The visiting coach was on him the entire game and got a T in Q3. Home team wins by 12. After the game, the visiting coach comes up to my partner and says, "What's your name?" My partner replies, "I'm sorry, I'm not allowed to give out my name." Coach gets in his face and says, "Oh really? Why not?" Partner says, "It's a condition of me being in the witness protection program."

The coach stared at him for about ten seconds, then just turned around and left. Jokingly, I asked my partner if they knew about this at his office. He said, "Sure, and they think it's really cool." BTW - he's actually an attorney. :D

I once told a coach I couldn't give him my name because if I did, it would be a parole violation.

I once asked an AAU coach who followed me out of a gym if he wanted to wear some handcuffs and take a ride downtown in my backseat.

He went back inside the gym.

Your comeback reminded me of good story about a high school ref in the Chicago area who also happens to be a detective I believe on the gang unit.

He was doing a holiday tournament game and at halftime asked an official who was doing next game if he could do second half for him. He noticed in first half a fugitive in the stands with an outstanding warrant on him. In full uniform he went up in the stands and threw the cuffs on him and off they went.

Talk about keeping the crowd quiet..............true story, years ago. I'm working with him next week as a matter of fact.
