Some people are teaching if we answer no to any of these questions, then its not a good T:

1. Does a T here make the game better?
2. Does the punishment fit the crime?
3. Can my immediate supervisor back me up?

To me the tone and volume of the comments and any associated histrionics as well as the frequency gauge whether or not I need to address the coach at some point.

If every once in a while he says something to me when I'm in the C but doesn't escalate the conversation I'm going to let it go. It's when I start getting the dramatic body language or a loud yell when I say "alright Coach, that's enough".

I hate to say this, but I've shortened my rope the past couple of years. I address bad behavior early and if it persists, I whack the coach and move on. Does it affect the rating I get from the coaches? I couldn't possibly care.

I've probably called 4-5 head coach technicals this season in 50 varsity/juco games (and witnessed partners calling a few more) and all but one of those were in the second quarter. Not a single coach gave me the slightest problem after the technical foul was called. Made my night much more pleasant.

Ignoring statements only goes so far. Ignoring the random, quiet, Tourette's like "travel," "3 seconds," etc. is easy. It's the louder, more unsportsmanlike statements I think we need to address and early. And not tolerate them.

Sounds like your Ts make your games better? Coaches generally get back to coaching their team once whacked.

Ok, this is way above my comfort level. I will stay down here at the high school level and live me dreams through those who strive to be amongst the stars.

You skipped some important information. Was she hot? Was she single?

The answer to the first question is definitely not, which makes the second question irelevant!

Must Be In The Water Or Air

Reffed 50 games this year and one T until Last Tuesday, Varsity girls two man. Three T's and fan removed. Now I go back to the same school with same teams Monday for a first round playoff game. Interesting.

Do you ever issue a warning and have it recorded in the book?

No. I don't believe in making a big production out of warning a coach. If I do it right, he and I (and my partners) are the only ones who know he's been warned. I'm not a stop sign guy and am unconcerned with making the warning show up on tape. I have no assignor that questions TFs, though, at least not directly. If I call a technical, I've either made it clear it's coming (and the coach can't help himself or wants one) or the action is so egregious everyone can see what's happened.

Ah, no. You don't say anything to her, you just wait for her to be escorted out. We can't play without the ball. Somebody will ge the ball.

Having said that, you had to ask "the police officer on site to remove her." Really? Really? He had to be "asked?" What the hell does he think his job is?
