I learned a new rule today...

Did you know that if a player is fouled while going up with a shot and the foul prevents the player from releasing the ball, it's not really a shooting foul after all? It's gotta leave her hands.

Must be in Rule 14 or so.

It was just one of those things that pretty much left me speechless. I couldn't believe that a varsity head coach of a pretty good program actually believed that.

Can you clarify a bit? Did he want the jump ball call? Maybe the full sitch. Having a hard time visualizing how this play happened. Coach is still a dork though. :)

No. It was an obvious foul -- his player got all arms. He just thought it couldn't be a shooting foul because the ball wasn't released.

All I said in reply was, "She started her shooting motion and the foul kept her from releasing the ball" and he said, "Exactly! It's not a shooting foul!"

I had to walk away.
