This past Sunday, CYO JV (Grades 4-6) Girls. Official calls a 5 second throw-in violation on the home team and explains what happened to the girls. He then gives the ball back to the home team for another throw-in.

Sounds like our Catholic middle school "B" division. Also sounds like an interpretation we would make very early in the season.

FWIW, This past week was week #8 out of 10.

And while our CYO JV rules stress an emphasis on its instructional nature, my own take is that to give the ball to the offense again in this situation when there is no rule basis (I know some leagues/sports may give a mulligan in this age group & situation, but our league does not) goes against the philosophy of teaching why this is a violation, but also unjustly penalizes the defense for their good defense and their knowledge of the rule that says they should have the ensuing throw-in as the offensive team.
