My first Buzzer Beater

Had a boys JV game this Saturday. Back and forth the whole game. 2 man mechanics.

The home team is up 4 points with roughly 9 seconds left. Visitor team goes down the court and makes a 3 pointer. And immediately take a timeout. I grant the timeout at 2.5 seconds.

After the timeout, play is resumed with an Intentional Foul. My partner has a clear jersey grab. He is the Lead and I'm the Trail. I see the jersey hold from the backside and my partner sees it after he gave the ball to the thrower-in and the defender didn't let go of it.

The home team makes 1 of 2 and is now up 2 points. Since it's intentional, we bring the ball back in at the spot of the foul, which is opposite endline. Of course, the visitor team steals the throw-in pass and the kid makes a double clutch NBA distance 3 pointer to win. Oh did I mention the ball hit off the backboard? :D

Crazy game.

Are you still high? My first "real" buzzer beater came on a Saturday too & I was still feeling that natural high on Monday :D

I have since come down, but I reviewed the tape both Saturday and again Sunday. It was really a surreal experience. Especially as I started to think of all the possible things that had to go right for one team to win. Stealing a pass opposite endline because your team just got an Intentional? Wow, crazy.

My best buzzer beater was an AAU game years ago. Forget if it was tied, -1, or -2. Team had throw-in 84ft away from its basket with less than 2.0 or something like that. They actually ran a play in its backcourt so when A2 caught the throw-in he was curling into his 60ft heave with full momentum. Went straight in. No doubt he released it on time. Opposing coach was arguing that the player travelled before releasing the shot.

"Even if he did, coach, at this point you let the players decide the game.":D
