3 seconds

I have been officiating primarily youth league, with NFHS rules. With regards to the 3 second rule, I reset the count everytime there's a try and rebounding going on. I've come across more than a few officials and coaches that think if the try doesn't touch the rim, they will continue the 3 second count. I've searched the rule book and I can't find a reference to the rim on this matter.

Team control ends as soon as a try is released.
Team control (in the front court) is required for a three second violation.

Hitting the rim only matters for resetting a shot clock (which most youth leagues don't use.)

The intent of the three-second rule is to not allow an offensive player to gain an advantage. There is no three-second count between the release of a shot and the control of a rebound, at which time a new count starts. There is no three-second count during a throwin. There is no three-second count while the ball is in the backcourt. There is a three-second count during an interrupted dribble. Allowance shall be made for a player who, having been in the restricted area for less than three seconds, dribbles in or moves immediately to try for goal.

Now I can square those guy's away, thanks. I especially like, and should make it digestable to the masses is the team control aspect once the try is attempted.
