Achilles Injury
I strained my left Achilles tendon last night (JV boys), with about a minute to go in the third quarter. I went to my partner, and told her I could finish the quarter (which I did), but it would probably be wise to let the varsity officials finish the game. After a little delay for them to dress quickly, the V crew hit to floor to work 3-man with my partner.
Of course, it turned out to be a 2-point game decided by last-second free throws. The doc says no games for at least a week, and take Nabumetone twice daily, while putting heat to the area. Could be worse, but man, do I hate crutches. |
Just because they say a week......
I would encourage you to take your time and let your body heal. Rushing yourself back can lead to further issues and injury.
Be careful and good luck! |
Heat?? I'd be careful with that.

Get well soon!

It sucks to lose games, but your health is most important.

My first game of the season, I torn (minor) my calf muscle. Went to the doctor, he told me to take sometime off. I took three weeks off no running or anything. I applied ice and heat twice a day for the entire three weeks. Although, I feel better and slowly getting back into it.Take your time and get better.

I appreciate the well wishes, crew. I'm not going to claim anything or even seek such insurance. If I were doing this primarily for the money (although I likely wouldn't be if I didn't get paid), I shouldn't be doing this.

Man, you may be lucky. Achilles injuries can be much worse. Glad you didn't have a blow-out. Good luck and fast healing!

So, here's an update. The crutches lasted a day. I can walk on it fine, just been stretching it a lot, and apply the heat, per the doc. I did P90X Stretch yesterday without any issues. My seven-day DL stint expires tomorrow.
I got a voice mail this morning to work a youth (sixth grade) boys playoff game Friday night. Small court, 16-minute halves (wish HS did that), not very taxing. I'm leaning towards taking it. |
I have also lost games because of achilles problems. There are two stretches from my doctor and therapist that really help and strengthen that area. #1:straight leg heel lifts. #2: bent knee heel lifts. You stand on the edge of a step with just your toes on the step. Slowly lift your heels up and down. I usually do 20-25 lifts with each exercise. The exercises can be done as often as you want. On bad days, I will do them every time I am on the stairs. Keep doing these stretches the rest of your season.
