Blow out

My most recent lopsided girls game
Miller Career - 93 vs Roosevelt - 13 at Gateway Tech - Final
I did work another Miller Career Academy game earlier in the season. 89-19
In this most recent game they were holding Roosevelt to single digits until they allowed 2 lay-ups in the waining minutes of the 4th quarter.
I also worked their JV game. I believe the final score was 53-2.

I had a blowout earlier this week as well. Not quite as bad as yours. Mine was like 67 - 13, girls varsity game.

Good news is we finished in 1 hour and 2 minutes. :D

Is that a record?

8th grade boys a week ago, 46-16 in 53 minutes. Took me 45 minutes to get home.

That's pretty good, is mine a record for varsity?

Had a 74-8 Freshman B boy's game, and a 49-1 Frosh B Girl's game this season.

I did not keep time for my game. I just know I was home real early.

Rich Thu Jan 12, 2012 02:33pm

I worked an 88-12 boys game, a 39-7 girls game, and a 71-5 girls game -- all in the span of about 26 days. The last two games were 6 days apart.

I'd love a close game for once.

stiffler3492 Thu Jan 12, 2012 02:40pm

Take mine, Rich. I've had two overtime games already this week.

Sadly, I hear guys that like these games. Easy game.....Free money......NO pressure, etc.

Gladly. Nothing wrong with OT in my book.

Sometimes I struggle keeping focus in a blowout. Especially when the losing team essentially gives up.

Rich, I was only half joking. While I'm out a little longer, at least I have a close game.

I agree. I may be crazy but I like OT games.

Not crazy at all. An OT game is a better challenge than a blow-out. The only reason some complain about them, from my take, is that they take longer.

SE Minnestoa Re Thu Jan 12, 2012 05:06pm

I hate blowouts, especially late in the week. My mind sometimes starts to wander and I am sure not having any fun.

Had one game this year end on a 55-footer to win at the buzzer. I will guarantee you my attention didn't wane that day.

Rich Thu Jan 12, 2012 05:15pm

I only hate when the prelim game goes OT or long. :D

That's really the only complaint I ever really hear about OT; from the officials working the next game. It's the same as when the first game has 60 fouls.

That's just as bad. It's especially bad when we watch the 3rd quarter of the JV game and half of the fouls called were ones that shouldn't have been called.

And then the JV officials come in the locker room and complain how "bad" the teams were fouling each other.

Adam Thu Jan 12, 2012 06:22pm

I work with those guys occasionally.

Actually blowouts can be more pressure than a close game IMO. For one more things can get out of hand if you do not keep doing your job. Close games often have nothing to do with you or if shots are going in then you do not have much to do.

Peace

Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner

Just home from my game and I was thinking about this thread (how sad is that?)

Last years defending Division Champs against cellar dwellers and a traditionally badddd team...... 103-12

It was 37-4 after the first quarter and 57-10 at half.

JVB's team shows up in the gym just as its 99-12 and they were like  and then they all got their cell phones and cameras out and took pictures of the scoreboard......

Nothing to see here.

Very true. Winning team decides to have a dunking contest. Losing team refuses to cooperate. Likely time for somebody to land on his head.

Yeah well that's all I have so as I tell the varsity officials waiting..."sorry". :D

I had a girls sophmore game last week at a gym where I definately have more OTs than anywhere else combined. I tell my partner this before the tip. Visitors have the ball inbounding under there own basket coming out of a time out. I say to my partner, "bet they dump it right over their line up to the big girl for an easy two." Sure enough. Short pass to the big girl who swishes to tie and send it to OT. I said to my partner, "I called that one."Fun game to officiate though. :)
