We get some pretty good H.S. crowds around these parts...of course this is kind of a special night. SWX game (T.V.) and both teams are in the same town. (2 of 3...3A teams in Kennewick)

I was at a similar game this Saturday with a similar crowd. Of course, I wasn't working it, they had the big studs on that game ;)

It seems as though people only come out for the games at the Dome

Kid was diving for a loose ball...undercut my partner. We were talking after the game. When was the last time one of us was on the floor in a game?

I can't remember...if ever.

I was with an "older official" doing a GV Fall Season league once and it was pretty obvious (to me anyhow) he couldn't keep up. During one game as the L there was a loose ball and he couldn't get out of the way. He went down in a heap - needed knee surgery.

Last time I saw him, he was still going.

Right before the Christmas break, I was working a game with Tref. I was the C in transition and Tref was the new T. There is some minor full court pressure, so I'm step sliding up the court, then I hear it "BAM" or it could have been a "POWWOW" or some such sound. My first thought is, "I hope we didn't just miss some serious contact"...I frantically look for the cause of the noise.

Our new L had taken a nose dive. He is a middle aged guy, roughly 35ish (is that really middle aged?), and there was nobody around him, he just fell on his own. Of course, the fans had a good laugh at his expense. That was the first time I had seen an official just fall on their own

At first I thought you were way off on your "middle age" estimation...but, I looked it up and here it is:

According to Collins Dictionary, this is "... usually considered to occur approximately between the ages of 40 and 60". The Oxford English Dictionary gives a similar definition but with a later start point "... the period between early adulthood and old age, usually considered as the years from about 45 to 65". The US Census lists middle age as including both the age categories 35 to 44 and 45 to 54, while prominent social scientist, Erik Erikson, sees it ending a little later and defines middle adulthood as between 40 and 65.

ouch!

Last year I was working a NCAAW D3 game, and I was the C in transition. We were moving up the court in preparation for a fast break, and I heard a loud, "BANG" from underneath the basket. Of course, I quickly looked to see what the noise was, and it was the new lead... he had ran too far and caught the bleachers!

Luckily, he was turned just enough that he was able to take a seat on the first row (unoccupied), and sat down right next to an elderly gentleman who just about threw his bag of popcorn in the air. It was pretty danged funny, and I still give him crap about it when I work with him.
