Officials in this game are wearing some sort of patch on the left breast of their shirt. Is this a Big East thing?

I think so - every Big East game I've watched this year the officials have worn this patch.

It's a memorial patch for the late Dave Gavitt, the founder and former commissioner of the Big East Conference.
