Fashion police

They showed up at my GV game last night.
R-Headbands must be Black white beige or the school color and all girls must have the same color, coach.
Me- They're not headbands. They are hair restraints.
R-They're headbands, they gotta go.

Will someone please tell me the difference???

What my girls are wearing are rubber band ponytail holders (which are fine I know) but they are also wearing a rubber band accessory that sits on top of the head and goes under the pony tail. The thing is basically a big rubber band that holds the bangs that a pony tail does not gather. It's like 2-3 mm in diameter.

Is that considered a head band? (Last night it was...)

So sock, shoes, anything is game? What's the big issue with a large rubber band?

See above. Rule book addresses headwear. It doesn't address socks, shoes, etc.

Got the rules part...I guess my question was more on the line of "Why NFHS chooses to regulate headwear and uniforms but not shoes and socks?"

Don't give them any ideas, coach.

Have you tried asking your state association or the NFHS directly?

Coach, here is one part of the answer

Part of the issue is like the NFL with it's mandatory fines if a uniform has socks the wrong length or the wrong colored shoes.

It the fact that NFHS want the team and not the individual to be featured. So they put the emphasis on uniformity and team in the rules the point that everyone has to dress the same. As for socks and shoes, they for the moment think differently, probably for socio-economic reasons (i.e. some kids can't afford it).

They do it in one way or another in other sports too, and they do have a point to it even though they go too far in this case. And in some ways I can't blame them, it seems like every kid has to make a statement in some way, be it dress, mannerisms, or something else, and it seems to be the more outlandish the better. It's just another function of the "me" generation, for better or worse.
