Palms up

I'm seeing more of the palms up with arms out to the side after calls. Even on obvious "easy" calls. You guys seeing this? How do you handle it?

Forgive me but not sure what you mean by "Palms up?"

Peace

I just say "what did you say?"

That seems to really diffuse the situation.

Sorry. Interpretation is, "Coach, I didn't touch him...I don't know why the stupid ref called that." Maybe its a regional thing. Or worse: only in MY games.

Oh. You mean the players put their arms out with their palms out. Nope. Haven't seen any more of that than usual.

That is where I was confused. I thought he meant something the official was doing.

Same here, not much different than any other time. I usually tell them to put their arms down and that usually stops it.

Peace

They're doing it because they see others do it and it's not addressed. Address it. Stop it.

(and "address, does NOT mean go right to a T.)

Turn your left palm down and "pop it" on top of your right finger tips.

remember fellas....you promote what you permit.

if you don't address it & stop it, then you must approve of that behavior...so you really can't complain about it.

Like The Tea Nazi Says, "No Tea For You" ...

Sounds like a "What? Me?" shrug. I'm probably going to just ignore it. Which means that I can't complain about it, so I won't.

I'll probably agree with this. Unless it becomes overly demonstrative. Then, I'll deal with it.

When it is excessive, I've been heard to say to the player, "Put your arms down! It's undignified to beg!" That stops it.

I don't mind the sincere "What did I do?" I'm happy to explain the call. What I'm seeing is the immediate default to this and the look over to the coach. Coach is already irritated the call went against him, then he gets the player reaction that suggests the call was missed. It can also incite negative spectator reaction. All on a correctly called foul/violation.

"Coach, I'll be glad to answer a reasonable question about what I called, but I can't have your player showing me up."
