Why I Love Coaches (and I Used to Be One)

Coach, losing by 20 in the second quarter, chewing my ear last night while at C: C'mon, you gotta call that three seconds on them. Look, he's in there right now. 1...2...3...4...5. How come you're not calling that????????

Me: Coach, the ball isn't in the front court yet.

Coach: Oh.

I love this game!

Talking

Since it's holiday time, here's a present for the newbies. When a coach is yelling for 3 seconds and the player really isn't in the lane nearly that long, your response should be, "Coach, that wasn't 3 seconds even in dog years".

When a coach is counting the 3 seconds, I want to tell him that his counting made me lose my mental count, and then I had to start over.

I call it, if appropriate, and then make a point to get close to his bench and tell him to coob.l it. But the odds of it being appropriate when he's asking are pretty slim.

When you hear a coach yell at his own player to get out of the lane, you can go ahead and call it without a count. He's been in there too long.

They usually just bark.
