Dead Ball Time out request

Last night, during a dead ball, we had a substitution of about 5 players. Two of the visitors' players went to the bench, but the third sub was confused as he did not know which player was the third guy to go to the bench. After some milling around, the V HC requested a timeout, which I granted. One of my partners came up to me to inform me that the TO should not have been granted because there were 6 players on the floor.

Point of note: This particular official is always right, even when he is not. What is your view of his comment?

My view of his comment? He's wrong, but you knew that.

My view of his attitude? Sounds like a PITA.

My view of how to handle officials like that? Why let them push you around? Get with your other partner and fix it.

What I told him: It has been granted, so it cannot be reversed.

I might have added: please send me the rule that prohibits granting that TO.

He is a board officer. Also had a travel right by me as trail, outside the arc. We had a TO and he wanted to put the ball in play on the endline. I pointed to the sideline. After the game, he said they were wiping up sweat from the semicircle at the FT line. The kid didn't roll with the ball THAT far. So, sometimes you just have to think to yourself, "I hope I get to work with other partners for awhile.";)
