Missing Whistle

in C...dead ball OOB so I head to the other end. Partner goes to put ball in play and I reach for my whistle and it's not there...

Found it later on the baseline where I was... glad I had the spare in my pocket keeping track of the arrow

I'm confused. I assume it was in your mouth while you were at C, so how did you find it "at the baseline where (you were)?"

How in the world did you ever keep track of the arrow for the rest of the game without that whistle in your pocket? My breath is bated.

Maybe he had a switch or button on this whistle?

Peace

Or perhaps there was one of those ingenuis lighted arrow displays at the table.

Still had the "empty" lanyard.... saw the whistle where it ended up about a qtr later....my assumption is that whoever spotted it just kicked it off the court

I usually wear an arrow on a necklace around my neck that points to the correct bench....kinda like Flav-o-Flav's clocks.

Only problem is if I rotate at lead....it messes up the direction.......maybe if I put the arrow in my pocket and the arrow had a whistle on it with a button or flip thingie........then I could keep track fo sho.

YEAAAAAA BOYYYYY!!

That sounds about as logical as using a whistle in the pocket.

Peace

At first i thought you were one of 'those' officials who doesn't wear a lanyard and puts his whistle in his pocket every time he makes a call. Doesn't make sense to me why they do it, but witnessed it the other day. To each his own, i guess.

There are several reasons; however, most of them do it to help slow down.

I saw 2 different officials do it successfully in Illinois while visiting over the Thanksgiving holiday.

It's not that difficult. Officials do it in the NBA and NBA D-League all the time and their mechanics and signaling are just as smooth as those with a lanyard.
