I never said it was difficult. There is no reason to do it. There is a handy little loop on your shirt for your lanyard to clip to. Lot less work than reaching in your pocket. Same guy made the game about him, rather than about officiating and going unnoticed. not a fan.

One, you don't have to put the whistle in your pocket...most people I've seen go sans lanyard don't. Second, I have no idea how you think someone not using a little strand of rope is making the "game about him." Seems like an over the top statement. Basically, what you're saying is the men and women in the NBA/D-League, probably some of the most professional people you'd ever meet, are making the game about them and not officiating.

And i guess you were there to see how he officiated. Over the top. Just like someone to take my words and make it about someone else. That is why I love this forum!

You're the one who insinuated the only reason to do it is to make the game about you, and you accuse APG of being over the top?

You made it seem as if your opinion was that all those that went sans lanyard were making the game about themselves. If that wasn't what you meant, then I apologize.

tw1ns Tue Dec 06, 2011 04:12pm

Yay! Someone else get's to voice his opinion on my post!

tw1ns Tue Dec 06, 2011 04:13pm

Maybe I should have put IMHO in there. Maybe that would make things better. My bad. Just my opinion.

fiasco Tue Dec 06, 2011 04:35pm

How about I use your exact words. You said there is "no reason" to not use a lanyard. Care to express why your opinion is the be-all, end-all of the subject?

Sometimes things aren't read the way they're written. (Don't I know it.)

You meant that a guy who 1) worked without a lanyard also 2) drew attention to himself

It was read (by some) as a guys who work without a lanyard draw attention to themselves.

It's true that some officials try to "big-time" others. They might do so by wearing a college jacket, or the college wide-striped shirt, or discussing the "big V game they had last week" while working a rec league game, or by working without a whistle. They are usually found out. But, not all who do any of those items are "those" types of officials.

tw1ns Tue Dec 06, 2011 04:38pm

Yay...another one.

tw1ns Tue Dec 06, 2011 04:39pm

Thanks Bob...I agree with you.

Yes, this type of official is who I call a "hot shot." Like I said in another thread, which you so quickly dismissed...

That's what a discussion board is about -- commenting on posts. Personal comments -- not so much (but it happens).

Unless someone is working the NBA or D-League (or whatever), I agree there's no reason to not use a lanyard. That's not the same as saying that not wearing one is, in and of itself, "wrong."

Out of line, impo.

I don't know that I dismissed anything in that other thread. As far as I can recall, my only comments were that you and who you called "hot shots" were mistaken about the patient whistle philosophy and that they might also be "over applying" the Tower principle.

I agree that that thread was possibly one where what you meant was not what was read by others -- "Hot Shots, who happened to go to camp" vs "all who go to camp are hot shots."
