Just wondering if anyone out there had a link to a site or a list of quotes that officials have said to players and vis-versa - in the heat of battle.
I have heard of a old time referee that was FIBA qualified and had an answer to every single smart-*** comment a player said. They say he wrote them all down so he could remember them at a later date. Does anyone know where i could find a list like this. I've exhausted google and other sites but haven't found muchh at all. I believe it was ex-NBA official Richie Phillips (and someone correct me if I;m wrong on this) who said to a coach who was arguing about a blocked shot/goaltending play said. . . The ball had yet to reach the apex of its parabola towards the goal, therefore, there is no goaltending. I always kinda liked that one. His advice was also to use big words to coaches, because most of them wouldnt understand. (No offense coaches. . . )

Wasn't there a Richie Phillips who was the head of the ML baseball umpires union as well, and got canned?
I think he was the same guy who gave the Yankees that controversial home run when the ba$tard kid reached over the fence and took a routine fly ball away from Baltimore's Tony Tarasco in the playoffs. |

Richie Phillips was never an umpire. He's an attorney who represented the MLB umpires.
Rich Garcia made the call in the Yankee game. |

Screw you guys. I'm going home. And by the way, the Yankees are off to their best start in like 130 years, and the Red Sox are only 3 back. Chuck |

As long as we can talk about baseball, and Cherry Garcia, and the Grateful Dead, no one needs to know about the Honig's catalog under the mattress... |
... and if your from Australia and you have hardly any idea of what you ppl were talking about for the last two pages ...
hahahahaha - i don't get any of it - but i still have a crinkle cut smile that reads - "I do not get any of this, but ..." |

I met Tramell in the U.P. |
In 1984, I was living in the Detroit area and got free admission to Tigers games as an active duty military member. I went to 40 games in 1984, sitting in the left field grandstand about 10 rows back - saw a lot of Trammell and Whitaker from a distance, Willie Herndon up close. One of my best friends stepped in front of me to catch a Trammell home run, and we rushed home to see it on the 11:00 news. Great times. Then they moved us to an ugly corner of right field grandsatnd, and it just wasn't the same.
8-0, 13-1, 35-5, Morris's no hitter, Ernie Harwell calling the games on WJR - Seems so long ago . . . the big 0-9, 0-12 just doesn't have the same magic. |
