girls'/womens' 10-sec. BC?

In the waning moments of the Baylor-Tennessee NCAA-W broadcast pn ESPN, there was a mention of talks of adding the 10-sec. BC over the past couple of years.

Is this a good or bad idea?

Like most ideas, it depends on whom you ask.

Good full court defense needs to be rewarded.

It is...

The NCAAW has been experimenting with the 10 second count during scrimmages and preseason exhibition games (conference depending I believe). The rules committee will discuss further to decide if it should be implemented in regular season contests.

Why there wasn't a ten second count to begin with is beyond me. Makes no sense.

If a team spends > 10 seconds in the BC, then they have little time to run an offense in the FC. That is (or has been) enough of a penalty (offense) / reward (defense).

Because it is women's basketball and they feel like they have to be so different. Not surprising when you see the mentality of women's basketball and their need to not be Men's basketball. It has always been different for one silly reason or another.

Peace

If I'm not mistaken, there's been a shot clock in women's basketball long before there was in the men's game. Since you only had 30 seconds to hit the rim, it didn't make sense to the rulemakers to limit backcourt to ten seconds.

Granted, the men's game has a 35-second shot clock, but I guess those rulemakers never bothered to change the backcourt rule. If it ain't broke...
