5 second count test question
On the Illinois test. All of the answers seem to be false statements. What am I missing? Thanks.
“An offensive player A with the ball while being closely guarded is restricted to 5 seconds when: A-a defender is within 6 feet and facing the dribbler while in the backcourt. B-the player is within an area in the frontcourt enclosed by screening teammates. C-there is an interrupted dribble. D-the defender breaks the 6 feet distance due to a quick move.” |
In the questions it says "closely guarded", I think C is correct, because if the player has stopped dribbling, ie holding the ball and is closely guarded the 5 second count would apply.
|
I could have this wrong, but I think during an interrupted dribble, the 5 second count is either suspended or abandoned.

If you look at the case book plays for closely guarded situations, that should help give you your answer.

So if A is closely guarded while holding the ball, there is no 5 second count? Or am I reading this totally wrong? I assumed interupted dribble meant held ball.

Good grief, the question is straight out of the rule book! Try Rule 9 (Violations and Penalties)!!
