What Counts?

Clarify please: Does a team technical and bench technical count towards total fouls?

Thanks!

Yes. In essence, each foul counts once. Just don't start counting indirect technical fouls.

(FED) According to 4-20, Art 13 - A team foul is any personal or technical foul (except indirect technical fouls) which is charged to either team. All team fouls are counted to reach the bonus free throw.

Now, what say you?

Snaq = party pooper! :)

If someone gets whacked, it counts towards their total number of fouls toward disqualification. They also count towards the team total in regard to the bonus. Team technicals also count toward the bonus. Indirects can only be called against the head coach and count toward his total for ejection (2 direct or any combination of direct/indirect=3).

One way I like to think about indirects is that they're not called against the coach at all.

An indirect occurs and is charged to the coach when a technical foul called against someone else other than a player (the 5 legally in the game) or a substitute. We never "call" the indirect itself. It is only the way the foul penalty is administered.

While a nice way for you to think about it, the phrasing isn't precisely true.

There are substitute technicals, administrative technicals, and even the crowd could cause a team technical. None of these get charged indirectly to the head coach.

OK, I've added "or substitute" but the rest are accurately covered. They are not charge to "someone" at all...just the team.
