There is a bill in the Oregon Senate that would provide for a maximum sentence of $2000 fine or 6 months in prison, or both, for someone not leaving a sporting event when so directed by an official. The bill covers coaches, players and spectators. It makes their crime one of criminal trespass. Also, they cannot return to the event after leaving if the original order to leave specified how long they must be gone.

The bill is pretty vague in places and needs to have some of its definitions (specifically "Game Official" and "Location") tweaked, but it is reflective of a growing concern among governing bodies as to the behavior of people at sports events.

BTW - the city of Sherwood, Oregon, already has a similar law on the books.

Who would have to tell this guy (or gal) that unless he (or she) leaves right now, it will cost them $2,000? That will go over real well, especially at youth league, cyo etc. games.

I have had situations in my rec league where I was at the game as the assigned Board member, an official directed someone to leave the gym and the guy refused to go. It was then my job to tell him that our association was renting the gym from the school district and if he didn't leave immediately, I would call the police on my cell phone and have him arrested for trespassing.

I have never had a problem where I was the official and I directed someone to leave. In that case, they know what's good for them and they skeedaddle without even turning back.

That would be a petard...not to be confused with a leotard, which I am pretty sure Chuck doesn't wear... although after seeing the picture JR posted last week, I am no longer sure about much of anything!!
