Substitute required?

From a pre-season rules exam (NFHS rules):

True/False:
Substitutes are required for an injured player when a team's trainer runs onto the court to tend to an injured player.

That's it. Pick the right answer.

The rule (3-4-6) says:
"A player who has been injured to the extent that the coach or any other bench personnel is beckoned and/or comes onto the court shall be directed to leave the game, unless a time-out is requested by, and granted to, his/her team and the situation can be corrected by the end of the time-out."

What is being tested here? Whether the substitution must be made in every instance (False. A time out keeps the player in the game.) Or...that with no other information....the player must be replaced because the trainer came onto the court?

You should not read into the question. Did the question even address the timeout? If not, then that should not be a factor.

Peace

I think its the latter. We should take into consideration only the information given in the question. True, a sub is required when the trainer enters the court. The coach can request a timeout to buy the player back in or send a sub.

A similar question, with the same issue, is on the NCAAW test.

It is is not mentioned in the question, it didn't happen. Since no timeout was mentioned, there was no timeout. Therefore, the player must be substituted.
