Well, not that I make alot of posts here, I just want you all to know I won't be on here until about Wed. I have to got to the Final 4. I don't have great seats so if something goofy happens, you will have to put it on here so I know what happens.

One good thing, I won't have to listen to the commentators on TV!!!!

Have fun. Yell at the refs for us (print this out to be sure you get them all!):

"Three seconds!!"
"Somebody's gonna get hurt out there!"
"Aw, ref, let 'em play!!"
"He's STILL in the key!"
"And one!"

And of course the all-time classic:

"Call it both ways!"

Juulie - you forgot:

"That's a reach" and "He's over the back".

Plus - my all time favorite:

"He's alloverem".

How silly of me. I guess sitting out for a couple of weeks has affected my memory.

I too will be at the Lady's Final Four this week!! But to rub it in I have TREMENDOUS seats 20 rows off center court! (I saw my pimp today!)

You also forget :"hi,look at the fouls..it's 6 to us and 1 for them..how can it be?"...

I was watching Texas/UConn last night. First, I have to admit I don't watch much women's college basketball. Although, if the defensive intensity is that impressive on a regular basis, I might watch more.

Anyway, late in the second half, UConn was shooting FTs. It looked like no one was in the first set of boxes. Yet, two Texas players were in the second set of boxes, then two UConn players in the third set, then two Texas players in the fourth set. I did a double take, but am almost positive that's what I saw.

I guess I'm showing my ignorance of women's basketball, at least the NCAA variety, but did I actually see what I think I saw?

Yup, that's what you saw, Coach. That's how the ladies do it. They alternate spaces just like the guys except that the low space is empty. So the "defensive" player MUST occupy space 2, then the "offensive" player may take the next space.

This is what I like about the women's game. Defense! Which leads to teamwork and more movement. The downside is that it also leads to more players on the floor as someone observed in a different thread. It also affects shot percentage, which makes it look like less quality, but really it's just a different game.

Thanks, Chuck.

What's the rationale for leaving the bottom space open?

While I'm confirming my lack of knowledge of rules, I have another one I saw recently that surprised me:

Hawks v. Grizzlies Saturday night - Pau Gasol took a jump shot from behind the backboard...and almost made it. I know years ago that was a violation, but was surprised when no violation was called. Is that solely an NBA variation?

More rebounds for the defensive team (a bigger penalty for the offensive team if they miss the freebie).

NCAA men's & women's have been fiddling with the FT line-ups and we've evolved into what we see today - women leave the bottom spaces open, men leave the top space open. Rationale has been to minimize FT rebound rough play & somehow equalize offense & defense positioning.

That and all the dunking!

Oh yeah, and the tight, short pants. Hee hee.

What a great championship game - great to see UNC (hell, anyone for that matter) beat Georgetown!

Oh . . . wait . . . maybe I should be watching ESPN instead of Classic. :p
