They have already distributed a survey to member associations. These associations decide who to choose for input. Some of the changes up for consideration on the survey are:

restricting the number of players allowed along the FT lane

not shooting any offensive fouls

adopting a mercy rule - possibly state by state

stopping the clock after baskets in the last minute of the game and in overtime

not allowing coaches to request timeouts from the bench

allowing the lowest player on the lane to step on the block

making the penalty for a direct technical foul against a head coach suspension for the season and a fine of $10,000 to go directly to the officials in that game

(just kidding about the last one, although I bet it would get broad-based support)

Yes! This was a mistake to begin with! Allow coaches to request during a dead ball but not during live ball situations.

Yes this was.

I had about 3 or 4 situations this year, where a coach was calling timeout right before a 5 second or 10 second count. My back was turned in all of them it was hard to tell who was calling the timeout. Because in all cases, there was more than one person calling for one.

Peace

Exactly! Then, you grant the TO just after the defense steals the ball.

Bad rule.

Mick was so chosen to complete this survey. Much like George Steinbrenner,he then consulted the four members of his Advisory Committee for their input. The composite answers were then put to a vote. The only problem was that Geor...err Mick had 5 votes to the Committee's total of 4!

It's good to be king!

The press release announcing last year's changes was issued on April 23, 2002.

I'd anticipate this year's changes will be announced about that same date.

I caught that too. But I thought that was just what they say in the South. :D
