Reebok Zig Energy Shoes

I see that reebok is offering this shoe for officiating (all black patent leather)
with the zig sole. Has anyone had any experience with this shoe for basketball, or running?

Larks Fri Sep 23, 2011 09:56am

I had a black pair last year that wasnt patent. confortable yes. Dont mind the look. Hate you cant shine them. Having said that....hate patent too so, Im headed back to NB I thnk

BLydic Fri Sep 23, 2011 10:35am

I talked to everyone that I saw wearing them last year, officials and players. The feedback was all positive. I ordered a pair of all black in the spring. They have some patent, but it's mostly the mesh, which as Larks said can't be shined. Anxious to get them in the gym.

Maineac Fri Sep 23, 2011 12:28pm

I used a pair last season. They were kind of suede-like, so shining wasn't an option. I thought they were comfortable, however they only came in medium width. Not the worst pair I've ever had, but not the best either.

Drizzle Fri Sep 23, 2011 05:36pm

I got the all-patent referee model earlier this month and have worked one day in them - so far so good. I'm curious to see how the patent leather holds up during the season. But during my limited tests, the shoes are comfortable, and they look sharp.

This is why I'm hesitant. I'm going to a local store and try on a pair to see if they're ok, before I order a pair online.

Mrcrash3 Fri Sep 23, 2011 07:15pm

Thanks for the input :)

Jeremy Hohn Thu Sep 29, 2011 06:48am

I have used multiple pairs for road races 5K/10K and worn them for summer league. They are by far the best pair of pure running shoes I have ever worn. They blow the Nike Air away in comfort and cushioning.

SmokeEater Fri Sep 30, 2011 01:10pm

I used a pair last year and they were comfortable and held up really well.

Only caution is be careful when making a sudden change in direction. The soles have a slightly rounded edge and if you don't plant square or flat you may roll over on your ankle.

BLydic Fri Sep 30, 2011 04:40pm

New Balance seems to fit my wider foot better than the running shoes like Nike or Asics, but these Reebok's wrap around my foot really nice. I noticed they have a mid-cut basketball shoe as well. Might provide a little more ankle support.

This is what I was wanting to hear. I love my Nike Air Max. Actually, my feet are in love with them. Best pair of shoes I've ever worn.

But, if the Reebok Zigs are even more comfortable.....it's worth a shot. The 2011 and 2012 Air Max's, that I've been able to find online, are all meshy and don't look like they'd be good for officiating anyway.

Plus, Smitteez has the Zigs for 95.99. 2012 Air Max = 159.99.

RookieDude Sat Oct 01, 2011 03:10am

Just ordered a pair of black patent zigs on eastbay...99.95 with FREE shipping.

Hope they work out...I'm trusting your reviews. ;)

As a sworn Nike Air person for years, I was hesitant on changing myself....you won't be sorry...

If so I'm curious to see how they work and feel.

I have a pair on back order right now. I wear orthodics and I will post an update when I get the shoes.

Mine arrived today - very nice. Comfortable and much lighter than I'm used to. Ordered a half size large and the orthodic inserts fit fine. Ready to try them on the court next weekend! Hoping for the best!!

This is the first time I've used this vendor.

I ordered them online on Sat and they arrived on Thurs (Monday was a holiday).

$94.95 to include S&H

Mrcrash3 Fri Oct 14, 2011 06:41pm

I will be attending a multi association clinic in Nov. I called Honig's as they
always have a booth there. The told me they will bring several pairs (my size)
so I can try them on before purchase.:)

I like my Air Max's too. Picked up a pair of Black 2010 Air Max from Foot Locker just the other day Got lucky they had them. Also you can find them on EBay too.

BktBallRef Fri Oct 21, 2011 11:44pm

I ordered my Zigs from Foot Locker on Tuesday and expect them next Tuesday. Like grunewar, I ordered my 1/2 size larger, since they come in half sizes but not in wider widths. Also, Foot Locker and East Bay were both running $20 off $99 or more purchases. So I got them for 79.99 plus tax and shipping. $88. Plus, they're easier to return to Foot Locker than to a mail order officiating vendor.

Have you worn the Zigs? For some reason, you were the last person I'd expect to wear these. :D

I've thought about trying them a half-size up, like you. I normally buy EE shoes from New Balance.

I like New Balance for the wide widths. I've also have Reeboks that are wides.

Can't tolerate Nike. They're terrible for my feet.

Not really. I was one of the first in our association to wear pleated slacks as well as patent leather shoes. And before we went to the stupid gray pinstripes, my crew was wearing the black/white stripes with the black inseam.

If I could find decent turf shoes with a steel toe, I'd wear them in football to keep those damn linebackers off my feet!

And if I never put on another pair of knickers, my life will be complete.

Rebook Patent Leather ZigTech Shoes

I got the Rebook Zig Shoes this year that is Patent Leather and shiny. They are very nice shoes. I have inserts I am supposed to wear for plantar issues, but the zig shoes I don't have to wear them because the support in them are excellent. I used them already this year and they are worth the money and they look really sharp.

You can order them from the Finish Line and they have the cheapest Prices I have seen so far. Right now they are running $79.98 and they ship pretyt fast, when I ordered mine back in October I had them within 5 days with just regular ground shipping.

Wore mine for the first time last night. Great looking shoe and they were excellent comfort wise. Couldn't recommend enough. Great shoe.

They don't have them in any of the stores I tried. You can try the regular Zigs and see how they fit. But I can tell you that if you normally wear a wide, you may want to order them a half size larger. I did and it worked out great.

The_Rookie Sat Nov 05, 2011 11:18pm

Nike

I just purchased NIKE Tailwind +4 from Finishline....Used them last weekend doing 4 Varsity Pre-Season games and they felt great. The shoes were recommended to me by a PAC 12 Official.

With any shoes..to each is own..get what works for you:)

zm1283 Sat Nov 05, 2011 11:54pm

I am itching to get these, but I just got a new pair of Nike Air Max TL5's last year that don't have a lot of mileage on them. May have to wait until I get a few game checks.

Agreed, I went up a size as well. Tried them out in games first time today, generally like the shoes, though they did feel just a touch slick on the hardwood. Maybe just need a little breaking in. I think I'm going to throw in some gel sport inserts for a bit more cushiness.

I did see them available in a sporting goods store in St Louis. Johnny Mac is the name. Tried them on. They fit nice and are light. I had to go 1/2 size larger. They were $99. So I bought them on line at Finish line. Thanks for the promo code. Paid just under $80. Can't wait for them to arrive.:)

Mrcrash3 Mon Nov 14, 2011 02:59pm

My Zigs arrived Thursday.
Lightest shoe I have ever worn. The Comfort was good and support good.
I wore them for a GV scrimmage Saturday. The only small
thing I noticed is that since they are patent leather the shoes are very warm.
I will wear them this season.:)

Update to my last post about Rezigs.

Still love the look, feel and are very comfortable. But I wore them for 3 games and went to put them on last night and they are coming apart. Left side seam on one shoe came apart in a 3 inch gap. Hopefully not a tell-tale sign.

Sending back for a new pair we'll see how this pair works.

So far I'd agree.

Mrcrash3 Fri Nov 18, 2011 10:30am

My 2nd game with the Zigs and my legs did not seem as tired. I can deal with them being a little warm. I sweat in any shoes.
I will buy a second pair when these wear out.

muxbule Mon Nov 21, 2011 12:38pm

Just received mine and plan on using them for the first time this Saturday. Just curious, based on just looking at them is the grip as good as flat soled shoes to the court?

Scuba_ref Mon Nov 21, 2011 01:11pm

Thinking of getting them siped?

I have used mine a couple of times now and the grip seems fine. When I first received mine I had questions about the sole - they seemed more like platsic than rubber. So far they have exceeded all expectations.

Disclaimer - I own no Reebok stock!

muxbule Mon Nov 21, 2011 02:42pm

That was my observation as well. Some guys in our association wore them last year and did not express concern but I like to get the opinion of this group.

Rich Mon Nov 21, 2011 03:51pm

I'm wearing my pair now.

I'm not sure -- they're a bit more snug than I'm used to, I have to admit. They seem very comfortable, though.

I was on the elliptical in them for a bit and my feet hurt. Of course, I use running shoes on the elliptical and different shoes on the court (usually a cross-trainer type with heel lifts.) so that means nothing. I'm not sure stepping up 1/2 size would do a whole lot.

I guess I'll try them in a scrimmage tonight.

Raymond Mon Nov 21, 2011 04:41pm

Just ordered a pair on Amazon.com. Finish Line had them for 79.99 free shipping but were out of my size. Went on Amazon and got them for $99.99 free shipping but then got an instant $30 discount by applying for a credit card. So $69.99 and free shipping. Not a bad deal at all.

grunewar Mon Nov 21, 2011 09:53pm

Well, after three scrimmages I must admit, I find them a bit warm, but not to the point of discomfort or anything I really notice during the game. No issue with slippage on several different floors. As I've said before, so far, I'm a fan.

The only difference I noticed is this. With the flat bottoms I wore last year, if some water got on the floor during a timeout, I could step in it and get the squeak back in my soles. You know, clean the dust off.

Can't do that with the Zigs.

Does that make sense?

They were incredibly comfortable. Keepers. To the point where I'll probably order another pair.

Yes. Of course, I just licked my hands and rubbed them over the soles, one zig at a time.

Not a great idea.

Canceling credit cards can have an negative impact on your credit score. This could adversely affect the interest rate you're offered if you apply for a loan, but everybody already knows that. What most people don't know is that a low credit score can adversely affect your auto insurance, and home insurance, premiums. Cell phone companies also check credit scores before offering you a contract. Most importantly, employers sometimes look at credit scores as another way that they can pick the most qualified applicants.

I learned this from my accountants, Dewey, Cheatem, and Howe. That reminds me. I should pay them a holiday visit. I wonder what the visiting hours at the state prison are on Thanksgiving?
