NF rules. Team A is in double bonus and A1 is at line to shoot two. Official mistakenly signals one and one. A1 misses the first shot and it is rebounded by B1. B1 goes the length of the court and makes a layup. Scorer immediately sounds horn (team A does not go to get the ball and the official does not place it at their disposal) and informs officials that there should have been a second free throw and also that he did not start the clock on the rebound. Official tells team B this is a correctable error, the basket doesn't count and they are going back to shoot the second free throw. B1 takes ball and kicks it into stands. Official calls technical on B1.
What happens next? |
If I am coaching B, I pull B1 from the game and inform the ref that they need to refer to the correctable error rules in the book. We get our 2 points, A shoots the second FT with the lane cleared, A then shoots the technicals, then A gets the ball at midcourt.
Otherwise, if the ref continues down the wrong path that they commenced, B gets shafted by unfairly losing their two points, A shoots three FTs with lane cleared and gets ball at midcourt. |
Great job Hawks, now give us the odds of it actually being done right in a high school basketball game ;)

IF "all" the players and officials reacted to the missed FT, then the officials have the right reason, but the wrong ruling. In either case B1 gets a T. If somewhere between "only B1" and "all players and officials" reacted, then the officials must decide. |

Please elucidate. Thanks |
Elucidate??????
Rainmaker,
Elucidate, I hope it means explain. |

If "all" players reacted, then the ball was live, it is a correctable error (as the officials said) and should be corrected according to that rule (which is not what the officials said). In between, well, that's why we get the big bucks. |
