How much longer for you guys till tip off?

Only 17 more days before fall league starts for one of the top kids rec leagues in this area (HoopSource). I can't wait to get my schedule. I usually get the games I want from them because one of the two guys who runs the league went to HS with my son, and also played in our local kids rec league when he was little and I reffed a lot of his games then.

Despite that, he likes me working his league.

How much longer for you guys until your first game of the new season, rec or otherwise? Are you getting anxious?

JRutledge Wed Sep 07, 2011 07:14pm

At this time, I will not work a game until November 21, 2011. Again still waiting on college schedule which could allow that time to be shorter. Again we will see.

Peace

26 Year Gap Wed Sep 07, 2011 08:53pm

I have already had my first meeting in one assn and have one on Monday with my primary assn. First games are usually around November 10th. Of course, I started to officiate volleyball this fall, so I am nearly 3 weeks into that season.

End of November for High School, first of November for college.

stiffler3492 Thu Sep 08, 2011 09:20am

Jr High girls starts September 20th for me. A few dates in that league, then the boys start in October, then high school in November of course.

So...12 days

grunewar Thu Sep 08, 2011 10:47am

I start my short wreck-ball season next Sunday.

Going to be interesting for me this HS season, as I switched Associations and have to be re-evaluated to see what kind of schedule I get.

Rufus Thu Sep 08, 2011 12:08pm

First association meeting next week with scrimmages starting at the same time (league play, not HS).

Scratch85 Thu Sep 08, 2011 12:13pm

First game November 15, 2011. Association meetings start up October 3rd.

stir22 Thu Sep 08, 2011 12:33pm

probably November, now that Javie retired. still waiting for the call.

Presently, MTD, Jr., open our seaon together on Monday, December 05, 2011. It is a boys' Jr. H.S. doubleheader (7th grade followed by 8th grade). We will follow our normal procedure: Junior will toss to start each game (because it is too much work to toss the ball) and then I will remain at the division line while the young whippersnapper runs from endline-to-endline the entire game. :D

Good duty if you can get it!

Try a volleyball referee stand - you can get good angles!

JBleach85 Thu Sep 08, 2011 04:37pm

Tip off will be here in about 2 and half months. Heck I would take my tip off time now so that I don't have to deal with all this flooding that we got from the rain. I guess until then just working out and training and heck maybe work some shootouts!

BillyMac Thu Sep 08, 2011 04:39pm

Like Christmas Morning ...

High school girls: December 7.
High school boys: December 14.

Scuba_ref Thu Sep 08, 2011 05:23pm

No Clue

I have no idea...football is just two weeks old. We get games assigned about two weeks in advance for both football and basketball. Don't work rec league. I am on the board for the Bball association and we will have our first board meeting within the month.

I also received my first ever contract for some college ball and I know they are starting to schelude games. I am only realistically expecting a small handful of games from them. This was the direct result of attending camp. I had a blast at camp (although I could never find the craft table and didn't get any s'mores) and bonus, will get a few games out of it.

You laugh at this but it is exactly what was done to me for my first game initiation 29 years ago! I counted no less than 6 senior officials watching to see how long I would last. It was High School JV game. I was 17 at the time.

SmokeEater Fri Sep 09, 2011 11:45am

Knee surgery on Sept 21. Just a little clean out so with a brief rehab I will be back on the court by the end of October. * fingers crossed at least*

Senior Mens and College starts October 11, High school December 13th ish.

Indianaref Fri Sep 09, 2011 04:43pm

CYO stuff starts in October, HS Girl's ball start 2nd week November, boys 4th week November

Hey Mark T. DeNucci, Sr: You still have to get up the ladder. You know, they don't come with elevators.

Sorry stir22. I've already got all of Javie's NBA assignments and I'm going to wear my OHSAA jacket to all of them! Meetings start next month. Girls varsity starts last week of November, boys varsity the first week of December.

Lcubed48 Sat Sep 10, 2011 10:05pm

Around here, the Girls MS season will start in a couple of weeks, and the boys MS begins the first week of Dec. HS action begins the end of Nov.

Adult "wreck" league starts tonight.
Junior College pre-season in a couple of weeks.
HS here doesn't start until December

Billy:

Funny you should mention elevators. My first job out of engineering school was designing hydraulic elevators for the Schindler-Haughton Elevator Corp. in Toledo, Ohio. That is how I met my better half, she was the secretary for the company's credit manager. SHEC was the American subsidary for the largest manufacturer of elevator in the world.

Be that as it may, I would have Junior carry me up and down the ladder, :D.

Here in Connecticut, we wouldn't be caught dead riding in any elevator other than an Otis Elevator. If it's not an Otis Elevator, then we'll take the stairs.

Otis Elevator Research Center, right across the street from the ESPN campus, in beautiful, scenic, Bristol, Connecticut. Like Sarah Palin says, "I can see it from my house".

I've been to Bristol...your statement is an oxymoron.:)

Middle school starts tonight...boy/girls double-header. I always cringe when the girls team comes out wearing knee-pads...I know I'm in for a full game of jump balls and fouls.

Ah come on, I haven't posted in quite awhile.

Might possibly have new scoreboard to work with.

Also looks like we'll only have V and JV this year.

Not getting anxious and I will see you on Saturday @ OES as we are working 4 games together.

Dude - I had no idea this was you. Just saw my schedule for the weekend. Besides the four JV/Frosh Women's (they don't call them "Girls" games at this level) I have with you that day, I have three 5th/6th girls games on Sunday at Aloha HS.

Better stock up on meds.

JugglingReferee Wed Sep 21, 2011 06:56pm

First JV/V double header is next Tuesday.

I've never worked games at OES (that's Oregon Episcopal School) before. I just happened to be driving near there this morning so I stopped to see where the gym was. It looks like parking will be tight this weekend.

Actually, working four straight games without a break isn't as tiring as it sounds, since the games are 22 minute running halves.

Raymond Wed Sep 28, 2011 09:18am

I don't count it as the start of my season, more like prepping for my season, but I worked 2 BV (3-Man) Fall League games last night.

I just felt sluggish and out of sorts. One of the varsity coaches who runs the league watched me work his team's game and asked if I was alright b/c I looked tired.

Hopefully I can get out there again before I go do any college scrimmages. After spending the last month watching football on TV I really had to train my eyes to quit watching the ball and pay attention to my primary. There were also a couple of times when A1 got trapped and I did not do a good job repositioning myself so that I was not straight-lined.

chseagle Wed Sep 28, 2011 05:16pm

Since things get started for me in a little over 2 months, I've been doing some studying, just need to get a copy of the new Rules book (if there is one) to be up to date.

I found out via pictures in the local paper, that am gonna have a new scoreboard to operate, thankfully I have used the control system before.

I'm sure that was the key criterion they used to select the new system. sheesh.

Actually the school district built a brand new elementary school that has a scoreboard in it's gym by the same manufacturer of the new scoreboard in gym #1 at the high school.

I only made the recommendation of the manufacturer last year to the principal and AD. I was not expecting such swift action.

Depending on the response I get from the AD, the season for me might get started earlier as our boys' JH/MS season starts mid-November.

I donated about $40 to NFHS for Basketball Official training by purchasing the new Basketball Rulebook, Officials' Manual, Casebook and Handbook.

Remington Fri Oct 07, 2011 09:36am

Oct. 16th for a JUCO game, but then I am off for about 20 days until a non-conference DII game.

First college scrimmage is Friday..

bainsey Thu Oct 13, 2011 09:35am

Just found out that I have three high school girls' games (running time) on Sunday 3-6pm. I also have a pair of U-12 soccer games, 11am-1pm that same day. This is a first for me, working both sports on the same day.

What's the over/under on the time I start to feel the lactic acid?

Since the soccer matches come first and the two hour gap between assignments. I predict the L.A. effect will begin to occur with the first couple of trips down the basketball court at around 3:02 PM ;)

Do we send Mark our debit cards and pin numbers to hold our bets??

I have a Girls Varsity Regional Semi-Final at 4 and then the Basketball State rules meeting at 6 today. I am hoping one of the teams dominate. :)

CHSLadyEagle Fri Oct 14, 2011 02:21am

I'm alive, just sayin' hi

Currently looking at the season for me starting on December 3rd.

It all depends on how my injury from summer has healed as to if gonna be zebra or table.

Loving the new scoreboard where been table crew.

I've been teaching my prodigy the fine art of running the new scoreboard, since maybe zebra this year.
