Team officiating?
A1 drives to the basket out of control, throws up some garbage while missing a layup & hollars disrespectfully at the L for a bailout foul... T.
A1 throws the ball from endline to endline while continuing his complaints. 1. How far does the ball have to go before he gets the 2nd T? 2. If you threw the 1st T who would you rather throw the 2nd (2 person mens wreck)? |

2) Both / either. |
If a player throws the ball from one end line to another they are likely getting a T. It would not matter if that was the first or second T either.
Do not over think it, just take care of business. I do not think many people would not understand the your actions to penalize a player that is that stupid. Peace |

2. For me, I like a partner to assess the 2nd T on something as egregious as that. It doesnt make the official who called the 1st T look like he's out to get someone. Tag-team technicals! I saw this play last night, there was no whistle until the ball hit the wall on the other end. The calling official who was now furthest from the ball had to toss the guy too :( I had to go 1, 2 on the same guy for similar actions a while back, I felt my partner could've joined the party. Im realizing many of us would rather let our partner issue back to backers so they look like the bad guy. It takes good partnering & a set to be willing to team officiate dead ball situations! If they hate my partner for doing his job, I dont mind them hating me as well. IJS |
1. Are we talking about a overhand baseball throw to the other end? This type of play will easily call itself...I'd whack as soon as it was evident what the player was doing.
2. I don't care if it's me or my partner that issues the second T in this situation. If I'm envisioning your original play correctly, then I'd say that this is something so egregious that I don't think it matters who gets the 2nd. That's not to say that there isn't good value in having a partner(s) get the 2nd T, but if something is so egregious, I think you have to take care of business no matter what. |
I had a partner in a H.S. JV game many many many years ago make a call that a HC did not particularly like. This HC ended up with the ball and threw the ball down toward the floor with enough force that it went about 20 feet into the air. My partner told the HC that if the ball came down it was a TF. I still ROFLMAO everytime I think of the call. :D

I had a player do this in a wreck league about 7 years ago. But instead of throwing the ball airborne the length of the court (as in the OP), he turned away from me and rolled the ball 84' to my partner who was at the other end line.
The ball maybe got 5' away before I whistled and signalled the T. No need to put up with this BS. In the OP, I have no problems calling the T both times. It's called taking care of business. |

Whack. Me, too. |

I too am okay with assessing both, but it doesn't have to be that way especially if your whole crew has an Rs mentality. |
I don't think it matters who gives the second T. The deed was done and everyone in the facility saw it. I think the scenario when a partner should issue the second one is very different than this.
I was in a game several years ago (DC area) where a coach received a T from one of my partners. After the first T, the coach came on to the court and was yelling and screaming at the official who gave him the first T. By on the court I mean closer to the center circle than his bench. This coach was known for literally getting so upset that he foamed at the mouth! So should one of us (two non-calling officials) gave the coach the second T? These were my two best friends in the area (BNR, you know who I'm talking about) and while moving to issue the second T, I cut off my partner before he gave the coach the second T. It may be a situation where you had to be there, but it was so personal and directed at one official that I thought he needed to handle the business. |
Good point!

In the OP, I'd give my partners a quick glance to see if they wanted it. they would have to decide quickly though.

As we all know you've got to take care of business & that is not something I shy away from. I've been known to go 1, 2, 3... ballgame in the wreck setting. But in some cases, perception-wise, it is ideal for a non-calling official to close the deal. |
What if
How would you call it if the ball went in and there was already a delay of game warning?
