Angry

If you recall the thread entitled "Post Game T", I ejected a boys varsity player for taking an opponent into the wall behind his basket. This occurred directly AFTER the final horn of a single overtime game with the final score of 103 - 96.

Well, last night I happened across a list of the Southeastern B's All Conference team and guess who made the second team. He's not a bad ball player, but I was surprised to see his name there.

Here's my thought (and question).
I know a few people at the state High School Assn. and am thinking about suggesting that they make anyone with an unsportsmanship ejection for the year, coach or player, ineligible for that kind of post season accolades.
What do you think, does that sound reasonable, or do I need to just relax a bit?

It depends.

If you would have called the state had it not been you that called the T (that is, if you truly are a "concerned citizen"), then perhaps go forward.

If you're "upset" about this because you called the T, then let it go.

Besides, I don't think it's a state issue -- does the state really care who makes "all-conference"?

And, maybe the conference already considers that -- maybe the kid would have been first team (or received more votes), but for the action.

A couple of thoughts. As Bob pointed out, All-Conference teams are usually done by media or coaches. The states generally would have no say. Kinda like Pete Rose being named to the All-Time team a couple years back.
Second, any suspensions he gets should be enough of a punishment. Especially since the absence would hurt his chances at all-conference to begin with. If it's a one time issue, let him take his licks and move on. If it's a repeated issue throughout the season, he's generally not going to impress enough folks to get any accolades.

My $.02 worth,

Adam

I am all for holding people accountable for their actions. But shouldn't the punishment fit the crime. If it happens just after the game, can you always be certian you aren't just seeing the second offender? Are you certian the other player didn't say things that would anger Ghandi, but only loud enough for that player to hear?

If two players don't get along, what is to stop one from pushing the button of the other to draw a flagrant T just to keep him from receiving personal recognition for his play?

Lets keep all this in perspective...this is only basketball. The recognition you want to withhold may be the only recognition this kid will receive.

The kid made a stupid play in one game. You gave him his punishment so his debt was paid. What player hasn't done something along the way that they'd like to have back? Whoever elects the all-conference team thought he was talented enough to make it. Let it go.

Question

Wasn't LeBron suspended for more than a game?

Good point. I knew what the answer was, I just needed to vent. I really do feel better now

Thanks everyone, for your input.

Yes, as a matter of fact, we have changed it in all of our print ads. Someone else thought that looked funny, too. I thought we had it all cleaned up, it took me some digging to find it in the web site. Who'd a thunk, one little mistake in an obscure web page, and mick finds it! ... thanks.

I looked through my "Cowboy" site ( www.NanselRanch.com ) after you cought that one. You had me worried, but I didn't fine one.
