End of game, player inbounds the ball by rolling it to a teammate. Teammate redirects the rolling ball toward his goal, picks it up after it rolls about 5 feet and dribbles. What's the call? Double dribble or nothing?

How did he redirect the ball? I have a feeling that this is one of those you had to see it plays.

Sounds like nothing.

It depends on what you consider a dribble. It can only be a double dribble if you ruled the "redirection" was some kind of dribble. But on face value it would be nothing.

Spirit of the rules

I got nothin'. By definition, a dribble occurs when 'a player in control strikes the ball. . .to the floor.' No control, no dribble. Why do this, anyway, since touching the ball starts the clock? Although beside the point.

No reason to do it, just horsing around at the end of the game.

Hard to explain what he did, but as the ball was rolling on the floor toward him, he leaned down and rolled it toward his own basket.

Caught me off guard because there was no reason to do it BUT if I ever saw it again I want to know what's the right call.

If he redirects the ball by reaching down and "striking" it in a controlled manner with his hand, seems to me that that would constitute a dribble. If he picks up the ball with both hands and dribbles it, I think we have a violation. He may, however, pick the ball up with a dribble and continue.

It is definitely a HTBT, it all depends on what the "redirection" looks like. If it is a controlled bat, and goes directly to the floor, sounds like a dribble to me.

It's no fun without a decenting opinion, right? :D

Definitely NOT a dribble.

Take a pass on it.
