Yesterday I did some 7th grade AAU girls. In the game before I started, the trail official stopped the clock, with the ball still in transition in the backcourt, to tell one of the coaches that he needed to either sit or stand, and that he couldn't squat. Does this seem like an overly zealous interpretation to anyone else?

Find other things to worry about.
I do not know about this games, but many AAU tournaments or leagues do not even have an actual bench or sometimes seats. This sounds like someone that needs to find other things to worry about.

Agreed. I had this coach for the first quarter while I was covering for an incoming ref before I left. He asked us prior to the game about that incident. We both told him we weren't worried about it, and even told him I wasn't aware of that restriction.

I think he was just trying to prove he was in charge--he needs to understand rules and get a life!!

Now, I think you're right. I also wouldn't have stopped play just to make that point, like he did. If a coaching box violation is egregious enough that it is disrupting play, it should be whistled as a T. If it's not, then address it when you get a more discreet opportunity. Adam |
Needs to know more than the rules.
