I need some slacks, a new shirt, a new lanyard, and a new wistle. I can get the shirt lanyard and wistle from just about anywhere but the slacks im lookg for are all sold out. I need these by may and espcially by june for the camp im going to.... where do you guys go when Honigs isnt there?

Mark T. DeNucci, Sr. Tue Mar 04, 2003 09:24pm

I use Purchase Officials Supplies (Barberton, Ohio) and its Florida distributor Torch's Referee & Umpire Supplies, almost exclusively. For IAABO stuff I go with The Official's Choice. But Purchase Officials Supplies and its regional distributors have the best quaility and prices.

Purchase Officials Supplies delivers all over the country.

You can try http://www.dddsportswear.com

You can also just go to yahoo.com and just do a search for "referee apparel" and you'll get an enormous amount of hits.

However - Honigs is the best.

Question - does your league not provide you the official's jersey/whistle/lanyard? Mine does, but I bought my own. They use that dreaded collared shirt, a pea whistle, and an 'around the neck' lanyard. I got a V-neck, FOX40 whistle, and a 9" smitty lanyard.

TXMATTHEW05 Tue Mar 04, 2003 09:38pm

BTW,

where in Texas do you live? I'm a native Texan - was born near Corpus Christi, but I also lived in a suburb about 30 minutes north of downtown Dallas, in Collin County. What part are you from?

JRutledge Tue Mar 04, 2003 09:50pm

Take your pick.

Basketball stuff can be bought anywhere.

Gerry Davis Sports (the best for Basketball stuff in my opinion.

+POS

Official's Choice

Purchace Officials Supplies

GetOfficial.com.

You can buy stuff just about anywhere. It just comes down to what you are looking for. It is really the quality of the stuff that is important, not the place you get it from.

Peace

Gerry Davis Sports has fast become a leader in basketball apparel. It helps having Tom O'Neill orchestrating the wants and needs of the basketball official.

You just need to have black shorts for the Rice camp. Slacks are not required or expected.

Different items

I think where you buy the stuff is really not all that important. If you buy it from a place that gives great customer service, that is wonderful. But I personally like to buy quality stuff rather than worry about where I got it from.

Shoes--You can get from anywhere and it comes down to personal preference anyway.

Pants--I personally think Sansabelt Pants are the best quality by far. You can get them from just about anyplace that sells officiating gear.

Shirts--It is about personal preference here too. Mesh, Micro Mesh, Polyester/Cotton blends. All comes down to what you feel most confrontable in. I personally like the Polyester/Cotton blends, because they hold their shape in the bags and with and undershirt you do not have to wash them every single time you wear them.

Socks--You can obviously get these anywhere. But the Gerry Davis socks are the best in my opinion. But they are expensive for some tastes. Just go down to the local Wal-Mart and by some all black athletic type socks. They might fade a bit over time, but they serve the purpose.

Whistles/Lanyard--Again I think the only whistle anyone can use is the Fox 40. Anything else is second class and does not sound crisp and clear. Now the Smittys or Lanyards are strictly person preference. Nothing more, nothing less. I like the NBA Noose, they do not break and adjust to your neck and fell the best.

Peace

I hope you're kidding. Unless your undershirt is plastic, I don't see how you can keep the sweat from getting to the outer shirt. ;0 I would never think of wearing a shirt for two games (different days). I couldn't imagine the perception that might generate when you come out in a smelly shirt. I would think that you, of all people, would value a clean uniform as part of being professional.

I have been trying the Thorlo Uniform Support sock for the last year or so. I really like them. I've not tried the Gerry Davis socks. The Thorlos are more expensive than a basic sock, but after trying them, I retired all of my other ref socks.

Well actually I am not kidding. I do not sweat that much at all. If the gym that I officiate is is rather cool or not very humid, I can where one of my officiting shirts more than once. I always wear an undershirt under my striped shirt and the undershirt almost always soaks up any sweat that might have been present. This tends to leave the regular shirt completely dry and with the same shape it was in before that game. No different than what happens with my baseball uniforms during the baseball season. If the environment is colder and you do not run and sweat, I will not wash the shirt just because I wore it. And I also have about 10 or more shirts to begin with. So it is not an issue of washing or not washing, but I want to prolong the quality of the shirt if I can. But if you are one of those that needs a towel to wipe off after the first 5 minutes, that might not work for you. No different than what I do with my suits. I do not automatically send them to the dry cleaners after one time I wear one.

Peace

Why slacks are not expected or required i dont feel comfortable in shorts LOL simple as that.. And if im going to see myself on film i wanna see how i look under game situations. I dunno- i never half-butt something (excpet for maybe cleaning around the house and stuff but what do you expect from a 16 year old?) but other than that i always go, give, and look my best. I'm gunna need the slacks anyway. so for this rice camp windpants will do?

You may also want to check out http://www.refshop.com. They have a pretty good looking site and good prices. I know they carry the new Cliff Keen pleated pants if you are interested in pleats.

Sansabelt v. Cliff Keen...

Anybody tried both of these and willing to share an opinion of which is better?

RefDog2003 Fri Mar 07, 2003 11:35am

Sansabelt vs. Cliff Keen

The pants are virtually identical with the exception that the Sansabelt pants are a little looser in the seat area. If you have a big a** then try the Sanabelt, but otherwise they are the same. The CK pants are a little less expensive.
