Went to a Class L Girls Basketball game last night and sat behind the scores table. Class L is the largest division in my state. In the second quarter a foul is called and when the official goes to report the foul he says #5 blue over the back and makes a motion like he is going to climb a ladder with his hands. I thought that there was no such thing as over the back, it would be called a push. Just wondering if someone could explain the ruling to me please.

Thanks

Was he an IAABO official or a member of one of the girls' boards? Either way, I bet the he used to officiate in the old Eastern League.

Maybe he saw an inbound pass from front court go completely OOB at the opposite end line and the call was "over the back court"?

I never understood

Maybe that is why they call it 'Back' court because that is where you make the 'over the back' calls...

and in the front court you correctly call a push.

Which official's back court was that? Trail? Lead?

Coach,

Sounds like you are from my state and I can tell you, if the board members heard that an official called it over the back, they would not be happy. Push it is.
