In our association meeting we had a discussion last nite.
A1 is about to shoot the front of a 1 and 1. A1 misses the shot and B gets the rebound and starts up court. The horn sounds, it should have been 2 shots. Our discussion centered around 1st should this be a correctable error, or a "hey guys come back and shoot the second one" (the course of least resistance). Secondly if it is treated as a correctable error, do you clear the lane and shoot the second and resume play where it was interupted or shoot it with the lane occupied. One more twist is that one official looked at the scoreboard just before the shot and thought it should be a double bonus....

Failure to award a merited free throw is a correctable error, and in this case, was recognized before the next dead ball.

Line 'em up, shoot the second FT.

And shame on you for shoddy game awareness ;)

well thanks for the admonishment, but really it wasn't me that was involved, but I agree. I agree it can be a correctable error, one question is when does it become an error versus, what happens occasionally when the kids rebound the first of 2 shots and we just tell them whoa we have another...I think in this situation it should be a correctable error, but if we call it a correctable error, has there not been a change of possesion, and you would shoot it with the lane clear, and award the ball to B after the throw??

Actually, upon further thought, no lineup. Shoot the FT, give B the ball (point of interruption).

Any other thoughts?

Now you guys are cookin'. Shoot the second throw with the lane cleared and give B the throw-in at the POI since there was a change of possession. If the officials kill the play as the teams are rebounding, then you could just line up and shoot the second throw.

This is the only POI in NFHS. (Answer to "quiz" that no one answered a few days ago.)

Check close rainman, I believe I answered your question.

Whenever the shooting team does not have the ball, you have a COP and you use the POI proceedure. (Clear lanes and give B the ball at POI).
