Question

I'm a division 3 official with TASO with 4 years experience behind me and I've called 50+ Varsity boys games. In this time I have never been in a game where a basket interference was called. I know that it is ust a matter of time however, so here is how I would handle it. I would whistle and stop the clock with open palm and then confidently flush the ball for 2 (or3) points (providing it was defensive interference) or would wave off any basket made if offensive interference. Then I would approach the table and report the basket interference along with the player's color and number. Then I would verbally and with the arm signal point the direction of the ball throw in on the baseline. I'm not sure if there is a place in the scorebook to record a basket interference or not but I assume that there is not. Is this the correct way to handle this or not? Also, goaltending--same question. Thanks, Ralph.

Ralph,
I just stop the clock, flush it or wave it off, turn to the table and verbalize the violation.
Everyone in the gym knows what you called anyway.
But, like you said, there may be a real mechanic out there somewhere.
