They are full of crap, and possibly cowards who are afraid to make the big call.

I personally don't like it when my partner tells me not to let a game go into OT. Who am i looking out for if I do that? Maye it;s just bcz I'm not a veteran, i dunno though...

Lighten-up guys, it is a joke. If you check the post you will see that those who say it have man, many, many, years of experience <my edit because I have no idea what I wrote> and would not have gone as far as they have if anyone thought they were controlling the game as such. Plus they are some of the biggest wisecrackers around.

If we're in a close game with just a few minutes to go, I always tell my partner, "If this game goes into overtime - it's your fault!"

I always like to joke that a good team can send a game into overtime but a good official will not let the game go into double overtime. Having said that, about four years ago in an AAU National Boys' Tourn. my first game of the day the first two days of the tournament went double overtime. My buddies did not let me forget it each night over beer, pizza, and cigars.

I know this rule also..
you let the game to go into over time -then you have to buy a beer to you'r partner.
