Had this one tonight for the first time: The second of two free throw attempts gets lodged between the rim and backboard. Still not sure I believe it. Ruling?

AP, same as any other lodged ball when the ball should remain live (other than a throw-in).

Had it once in 15 years.

Fixed for Padgett.

Nope - if there are free throws that must follow (not his case, but to refute your "same as any other lodged ball" statement), then you just count the wedgie as a miss.

You guys say it's happened to you so it must be possible, but I just can't see how.

I've only had a handful of "wedgies" EVER, much less on a FT attempt.

Seems to me you'd have to hit the spot just right, with just the right spin/lack-of-spin

But,

Twice during my career (a long one but that's another story) I have had balls roll around the rim a couple of times and actually stop, balanced on the bracket. One time this was a free throw (1st of 2).

A free throw wedging sounds like a person with my playing skill level. Hehehehe,

In a D3 game, ball gets shot with about 10 secs. to go in the 1st half. Gets lodged. Coach: Why do we half to loose posession just for that. (AP arrow was Team B's). My partner: Because that's what they wrote in the rule book. Coach was dead serious, I couldn't believe it.

Don't ever ask how something could possibly happen in this game! Believe me, if it is in the book it has happened. I couldn't believe how a free throw could lodge between the board and the rim either until it happened. The ball bounced high off of the front of the rim and sure enough, lodged tight!

I have had 5 or 6 lodged balls this yr alone. Of corse many more teams are going to the composite cover ball (mn state accepted) and that ball seems to be "stickier" and get stuck more often.

Also had a friend in a JuCo womens game who had a ball come to rest on the flange behind the ring. Any one ever seen that????

Seen both the wedgie and the balancing act. The 285s get wedged a little easier and it is more common. We have had a few this winter.

Tonight, for the first time (that I can remember) I had a wedgie on a free throw. You guys are bad luck! Interesting thing was some bonehead on the bench of the shooter's team started shouting "That's a violation! Violation!" after I put my 2 thumbs in the air. Go figure. One of the players hopped up & dislodged it.

Last night during a girls game we had a wedgie on a shot attempt. Someone had to go & fetch a practice ball for us to knock the game ball free with. Oh well.

One a week, whether I need it or not....

I have experienced about one wedgie a week..... Oh wait, you are talking about basketballs between the rim and the backboard.! :D

Honestly (or is that supposed to be, Seriously)... I have had a wedged ball (28.5 Composite) about once a week.
