I am new, so I am just going to dip my toes in.
Scenerio: Player A is driving to the basket for a lay-up, and charges player B. If A releases the ball before contact does the basket count? |
Assuming that he made the contact before coming back to the floor, that would be a player control foul, which is a foul by a player who has control of the ball. You can never count the basket on a player control foul. But remember, once the player returns to the floor, he is no longer in the act of shooting, and that would not be a player control foul. In that case, you would count the basket.

Also in WNBA, the basket does not count. I know this not from working WNBA -- I wish! -- but from watching a game on TV where the announcers thought the basket should count and had to be set straight by some expert who chimed in a couple of plays later.
Another example where TV announcers are not the best friends to refs. At least these folks had the expert available and were willing to listen. |
