...and now comes the best part! The AD of the school, who happens to be a woman, has suspended the coach, and will take over coaching responsibilities for the next game, thus becoming the first woman to ever coach a men's D-1 team. I don't think she's ever coached before, but I may be wrong. The interesting thing will be to see if and how the players react to this.

Sorry, this is a continuation of the Tennessee State brawl thread...

She coached the Tennessee State women for 11 years, her teams won over 200 games. So she has some high level coaching experience. My question is why wouldn't she name the men's assistant coach to coach the team? Isn't that one of the things an assistant coach is for? You don't see the UCONN AD on the bench while Calhoun is out. . .

Maybe the assistant now doesn't have any experience. Lewis, the head coach was the assistant at the beginning of the year and got moved up after Richardson III resigned. Maybe they don't have an experienced third assistant. My thinking though is that after Richardson and now this, that she is probably tired of how the coaches are running that program.

Or maybe she just wanted to get in the news.

If I read the article right, this is the same school that suspended Nolan Richardson III for the gun incident. The current coach WAS Richardson's assistant coach. This program is in a world of hurt.

I referenced the whole Nolan Richardson III issue in the post about 19 ejections. I am sure she is taking it over in the interim as the coaching staff is dwindling. I think they want to take their time and find the right person to fill the job outside of the school. Bring in some fresh air so to speak.

Like I said, This is a year for TSU's athletic dept to forget as it pertains to men's basketball.
