Had a sitch last night that I could use some opinions on. I think I know how I should have handled it, but...

Ball inbounded A1 is about top of the key when the horn sounds erroneously. All 10 girls pretty much stop, ball handler picks up ball but doesn't walk. I pause for a sec as I look towards table then say "play". About the time I do, the defense smacks the ball out of A1's hands and drives for a layup, gets fouled. Normally, I would say only the whistle stops play, but I think I should have stopped and "made a quick check with the table". Might have saved me some headaches as both teams were complaining that we didn't stop and of course A ends up losing by 3.

I probably would have stopped play, and resumed with a throw in from OOB with A having possesion again. I will only ignore an inadvertant horn if the players do as well...

Yep, you can save yourself some grief by hitting the whistle. If the horn goes during play, the two times I definitely will NOT stop play are

1. No player possession
2. A player making a move to the basket

Just exercise your best judgement. If everybody stops playing, blow your whistle.
