I know in volleyball the NCAA rule book says that line's judges and scorekeepers should be dressed the same as the officials, and not wearing a school logo. Is there a similar rule for basketball, and if so, can someone please cite it. If not, can the timers and scorekeeper wear whatever they want?
Thanks |
The official scorer should be wearing a striped shirt like the referees. I don't believe that there is any uniform for the timers.

Wearing a striped shirt is only a recommendation.

Does the recommendation for the scorer to wear a stirped shirt also go for student/faculty scoreres, or only when the scorer is a real official? Thanks.

Often ignored, especially at lower levels. |

Yeah, and deer in the woods should wear bullseye t-shirts!

For HS only.
I dont know where you are going with this but this is a road that you CANNOT go down. Nowhere in the NF high school rules will you find what a score keeper or a timer MUST wear. Now a state may require a dress code for end of year tournament games. This is because it is more than likely that these people are certified officials, especially as you get closer to the final itself. Unless there is a state rule to the contrary, during the regular season you will find volunteers doing the books and the clock. You have no right to request what they wear. Now, as I said in a post I made a few weeks back, my association provides timers, for a fee, to schools that request them. This year I did 3 games and the fee/pay was $25 a game. By request of the schools and thus my association I had to wear my stripes. Really, I never took them off after doing the first game of the night. And yes, I did feel like a target in the last quarter of the 3rd game. |
In Alabama the ECO MUST wear a striped shirt, no questions asked!

The what?

NFHS Rule 2, section 11, article 11-Note 1
The rules committee strongly recommends that the official scorer wear a black-and-white striped garment and that his/her location is clearly marked. Not required, only recommended. |
Here in Ontario it's unheard of to have the table crew to wear stripes. Mind you, at the highschool, and college level we wear grey. University wears white, and i think their scorer might wear stripes. Also, in some of our HS game there are only 2 people at the table.

And, I'm not sure what the purpose of that would be. |
