Jurassic Referee ???

Last post was Thursday, May 12, 2011. I hope that he's on a beach somewhere drinking an adult beverage with an umbrella in it? The last time he took a break from the Forum he came back as the kinder and gentler Jurassic Referee. I wonder what the transformation will be like this time.

You are correct. JR has been conspicous by his absence. I know I haven't been posting alot lately myself because of the baseball season, but I have been lurking (usually wearig a trench coat, :p).

It appears that JR got upset in an exchange with another person on this site (and the final exchange was not even on this site) and made a reference to not seeing the point of being here or any similar place. I think it is that simple. At the end of the day some take this place too seriously (look at my FB posting :D) and cannot disagree or take a conflict in stride.

Peace

It's not like we need someone who calls everyone who disagrees with him an idiot or some similar insult. That approach rarely convinces the other side to see their point.

In the case of Jurassic Referee, I'm willing to overlook some of his indiscretions because he more than makes up for it with his knowledge and experience.

Without a doubt, he's taught me more about the rules of basketball and I've never had a direct conversation with him. :o

Just keeping it real as the young people say. But I like JR I just thinks he gets to hot and bothered sometimes. But it does appear based on some comments that is what set him off (so to speak).

Not being privy to what happened off the board (FB or elsewhere), I really can't answer to that. I'm not saying he doesn't get out of hand or over the top sometimes, but I can't really judge him for that (neither can most of us) because I have a tendency to do the same thing.

I am not judging, just saying that a discussion that did not happened here is a marker for why he has been absent based on his comments. The FB comment was an inside joke to someone here. ;)

I just think most need to keep this place in perspective (and other places like it). We do not know most people personally and we will never work with most here either. I do not think I have personally worked a game with 5 people that have ever come to this site in four sports I have worked and if I did I would really have to think long and hard to come up with that number. So what we say or do should be taken through a certain lenses that should not get us that excited good or bad that is all. And just like anyone here, you do not have to come here to have discussions about anything. I know I have enough drama off this board when it comes to officiating and even that is put into perspective as those people I deal with in real life do not even affect anything in my career or the games I work.

Peace

I can only hope that you were not singing this to Mrs. Billy Mac back in the

day when you would get on her bad side !!!!!!!!

I bet you still have an 8 track tape of this that you play in your El Dorado

up in Connecticut !!!!!!!!

Rather than making guesses and assumptions, I went to the source...he is busy with a lot of things. Got tired of having to say the same thing to the same people over and over (rule-wise) because they just don't get it, and decided to just take a break from the forum. Not mad at anyone...not bothered by any exchange here or elsewhere. Just has better things to do with his time right now.

tref Mon Jun 13, 2011 01:05pm

I saw that he was logged in today!! Perhaps to check your PM... if you happen to chat with him, let him know he needs to get back in here & get the accountability factor back up!!
There used to be a time when you couldn't come in here making up rules & not get smacked around for doing so. Him smacking me around made me start reading a rule per day.

If you're talking about FED rules, you should have been done in ten days.

Certainly you're joking...

If Dick Bavetta still reads his book, I feel like I should as well.

Seriously how is that much different than what I said? He made that very clear in a comment he made on another site. Whether he is mad or not who knows really. But it was clear that he got perturbed with a discussion and he has not been back since.

Let's see...you said he was upset, and that he needed to learn to take things in stride...I said he was not mad at anyone.

Guess that's not different enough for you.

It was an expression calm down. And if you are cool then why go out the door complaining that someone will not listen to you. If you are fine then you just leave. That was clearly a monumental moment or he would have just left without his comments about not coming back.

There is a difference. I have never left the site for an extended period of time over a conflict (and said so in a post). And the time I did cut back I was so busy with other things I did not notice I had not been here in some time. So no there is no comparison. I have also told people here what this place is to me and what it is not to me. Like I said if I have worked with anyone here I do not know if I could count them on one hand. So why is there any reason to be upset about what others say here? Maybe you can explain that to me?

And JR has gotten really upset or name calling people that he did not like what they said to on the board. Never got that kind of reaction from him and others and someone here pointed that out.

Peace

No - there are only ten FED rules. Of course, there are tons of sections within those rules. BTW - I doubt Dick Bavetta still reads the FED rulebook.

Not sure what your point is in this post. Nobody was discussing whether you had left the forum or not. A question was asked...you posted an answer. I went to the source and asked. You were wrong. You said there was no difference between what you posted and what I posted. I pointed out that you were (again) wrong.

Nuff said.

I posted an explanation. And if you were in on the conversation then you might have been aware of those comments. I do not care what he told you, I know what he said for others (and there are people here that saw his comments too). You do not frequent that other site and actually the conversation was deleted as well. Immediately after I posted my comment here a person that was in on that conversation sent me a message about what I said. They seemed to feel the same way or noticed the same comments. I know what he told you, but I know what he said too. Again, he can tell you anything, that does not mean that others do not know of other comments and evaluate their opinion based on that. At the end of the day who really cares? If he comes back then he comes back. I know a lot would like to hear from him. I also know others that would not. The nature of this forum.
