Observations with Club Basketball
I just started doing youth club basketball 3 weeks ago ages 9-14 yrs old.
A few observations that I wanted to share and see if this has been your experience too :) 1) LOTS of reaching all over the place..no sliding of the feet. 2) Coaches complaining about offensive players creating space by extending their free arm 3) Coaches complaining about elbows 4) Lots of traveling 5) Lots of reaching across the boundary line on throw in..no ball contact |
1) LOTS of reaching all over the place..no sliding of the feet. Look at the age!
2) Coaches complaining about offensive players creating space by extending their free arm They teach them to do that! 3) Coaches complaining about elbows 20 of them on the court 4) Lots of traveling They watch the NBE 5) Lots of reaching across the boundary line on throw in..no ball contact See answer to 1 |
What is club basketball?
Is this anything different than "wreak" leagues or travel ball? It is all the same if you ask me. Little to no accountability and a waste of time for many officials. Peace |
A lot of that stuff disappears once you start addressing it.
Call the traveling. Tell the coaches they don't get to complain. They can ask questions, but even then their allowed number of questions will be arbitrarily limited by my mood. The better my mood, the more questions I'll take. Call the kid for reaching over the TI line, they'll stop doing it once you start shooting free throws. As for reaching on defense, call it if they foul. It gives you a good chance to watch the reaching and see what affect it has, if any, on the ball handlers. And if telling the coach he can't complain doesn't work, T time. If that doesn't work, he can hear about the game later. If that doesn't work, then it's truly not worth your time. |
And don't report it as a 'reach'.
