jV game - Girls.
One player sported 1/4 to 1/2 inch long manicured fingernails. She handled the ball well with them (to my surprise) but during rebounding these things were weapons! Not only were the over her fingertips but all colored up. What to do? |

I don't think that you can say or do anything about the color of the fingernails, but the length is a different matter. Safety in a basketball contest is always the overriding issue for an official and, if in your opinion, these nails produced a dangerous situation, then you should not allow her to play until the situation is corrected. I know that this is a tough stance to take in this day and age, but I firmly believe that it is a necessary one.

If you think it is a safety issue (and you probably wouldn't have posed the question here if you weren't at least thinking about it), then she doesn't play until they're safely trimmed. If you let her play, it won't be long until someone is bleeding.
