I have brain lock, someone help me out. JV game.
Sitch: A1 releases the ball on a try, while the ball is in
flight, A2 under the basket, fouls (displaces) B2 in trying to get position for the possible rebound. The ball goes in.
Is the shot good, and then administer the foul against A2?
Or shot no good. The ball was clearly in flight before the foul.

Score the field goal and then take care of A2's personal foul.

Thanks, Mark,
That is exactly what I did, the B coach was arguing
"No Basket" because he said it was a new rule this year, that any offensive foul, wiped out the basket.

That coach has been listening to Billy Packer on saturday mornings...he is wrong, you handled it correctly.

He's right - on Mars, maybe.

What do the experienced ref's here call?

I used to whistle this more often than I do now. More frequently I wait to see if the ball went in or not. If the ball goes in I almost always let it go unless it is really ugly with the philosophy that there is no advantage gained by the contact.

If there's no basket I'll whistle it and I'm pretty sure I've never heard a player complaint about the "delayed" whistle since the person knew they were in the wrong.

Do you guys call this foul?

Call the foul

It will only get worse next time down the court. Call the foul.

Make sure you get the shooter (person fouled) for the upcoming free throws. Called one like this the other evening. My partner allowed, or put, the player that was shooting the original shot on the line for an additional 1 and 1 after I had counted his basket. Fans were doing lots of screaming. Administrator wanted to argue that we couldn't shoot a 1 and 1. I argued that I was doing the right thing; I didn't realize until after the game that we had put the wrong shooter on the line. OOOOpppss

Somebody clarify for us... isn't it a new NCAA rule that Jim's coach was arguing for?

Might be referring to the new "Team Control" foul designation.

Of course, a team control foul does not cause the ball to become dead once it is in flight, so I don't have a clue what this coach is referring to!

(What a shock!)

I call it. I feel that off-the-ball stuff gets worse as the game goes on if you let it go.

Gotta handle the bangin bodies underneath....this is where I find 95 percent of the rough play, and 100 percent of any cheap shots the players take at each other.

Having said that, I only call it if a player loses a rebound opportunity and/or if the contact was too severe to ignore.

What's wrong with Billy Packer? I kinda like him...it's Jim Nance I can't stand (bring back Sean McDonough!)

Maybe I am misunderstanding things but I thought A2 was the one who fouled B1. Why should A1 shoot FT's shouldn't it be B1 if they are in the bonus?

I can live with almost anybody . . . any time I get annoyed, I just remind myself I should be thankful it's not Vitale.

Where else in the world can one find this vast assortment of information? And my wife thinks all the hours I spend on this board are wasteful.
