Do any of you use the international rule that on violations in the back court, the players can bring it in without the official handling the ball?

I ask this because I had a game with a Louisiana school earlier this week and they seemed to try to do this a lot. I was blowing the whistle all night long trying to get them back. I kept telling them things like Summer league is over, and Your in Texas now and I must handle the ball first.

No. I've only seen that in rec ball. Ask Rut if any of the 2,142 groups he works for in Illinois do that. :-)

I thought I'd heard that they changed that rule, so that the ball had to be handled by the official, even in the backcourt. Where the bleep is Duane when we need him?

I know several years ago, I was officiating a team from Canada (here in the states). We had to remind the players that they could not do that. After a couple games the incidents diminshed.

Also We as officials had to remember that the teams from Canada were used to leaving the ball on the ground at the spot of the violation and they were not being rude or disrespectful on not handing it to us.

You mean you are not going to threaten Louisiana with bodily harm for not following NF Mandates? I thought all 50 states used NF Rules?

BTW Tim, I have never heard of such a rule or mechanic. But it goes to show we do not all follow the same practices. I guess that is a surprise. ;)

Peace

I have had several Louisiana schools before, but this is a different school. This school has many international students so this could have been an international thing instead of just a Lousiana thing. I was hoping someone from Lousiana would pop in and clarify this.

Nothing like that in my part (NE) of Louisiana.

Must have been just the fact that the school has a lot of international players.
